We all know that vitamins are necessary for our body to function well. It is also known that they help in maintaining good health, and that we can't live without them. We take them in our food and drink, and they are absorbed into our bodies through the digestive system. However, most of us don't know what exactly they are, or how important they are to our lives.

 

What Is A Vitamin?

A vitamin is a substance that helps the body perform various functions, such as the production of energy, growth, reproduction, and the healing of wounds. They are also needed to carry out certain chemical reactions in the body. The body has a limited supply of these substances. When we consume more than our body can absorb, it stores them in the liver and other organs. Some of these vitamins are produced by the body, while others must be obtained from food. For example, vitamin C is produced by the body, but it cannot be found in any foods.

 

What Are Minerals?

Minerals are elements that are essential for life. They include calcium, iron, potassium, magnesium, sodium, and phosphorus. They are also needed for the formation of bone and teeth, and for the proper functioning of the nervous system. They are present in the soil and water, and are used by plants to grow. Minerals are not produced by the body, and must be consumed in the diet. They are absorbed into the blood and transported to the tissues and bones, where they are stored.

 

How Do Vitamins And Minerals Affect Our Health?

There are many different types of vitamins, which work together to provide the body with energy. The B vitamins, vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin E, and vitamin K help in the formation of red blood cells, and in the absorption of iron and calcium. The minerals, iron, calcium, phosphorous, and magnesium, are needed to produce hemoglobin and white blood cells, and to build strong bones and teeth. The minerals, copper, zinc, iodine, and selenium, help in the production of hormones, and the absorption of iron and calcium.
